Our History
The United Nations Women’s Health Foundation was established in 1951 by private donations on the occasion of the unsuccessful referendum for women’s right to vote in Switzerland. The Foundation is independent and self-constituting and is managed by a council of scientists and business managers. The Foundation is and has been financially and operationally independent of the United Nations since its inception. The offices of the United Nations Women’s Health Foundation are in Geneva, Switzerland, New York and Washington, D.C. Field offices are established in 54 countries worldwide.
